A Few of the Recipes Found Herein
(For a party of 15)
Take 3/4 of a pound of loaf sugar; squeeze upon it, through muslin, the juice of two or more good-sized oranges; add a little of the peel, cut very thin, pour upon a quart of boiling water, the third part of that quantity of Batavia Arrack, and a bottle of hot, but not boiling, Red or White French Wine–Red is best. Stir together. This is excellent when cold, and will improve with age.

Put all the materials in a clean demijohn, the boiling water to be added last; cork this down to prevent evaporation, and allow the ingredients to steep for at least six hours; then add the hot milk and the juice of two more lemons; mix and filter through a jelly-bag; and when the punch as passed bright, put it away in tightly corked bottles.
This punch is intended to be iced for drinking. If intended for immediate use, filtering is not necessary.
